WANTED: We are offering a job for a sensitive, caring, nurturing Woman or Man who cares deeply about animals to work at the non-profit Ironwood Pot-Bellied Pig Sanctuary located near Marana, AZ, a rural area of Southern Arizona one hours drive Northwest of Tucson. Housing is provided. This job is more than just feeding. We have 500 pot-bellied pigs including over 300 seniors. Many of these pigs need hands-on care. This is not a short term job. We are looking for someone who wants a long term employment. Health insurance available after 3 months.

Housing is a 40-foot long completely self-contained 5th wheel trailer. You must have your own reliable transportation to get into town. Utilities, except for telephone, are provided including TV and internet access.

* Experience working with animals and medical knowledge is a plus.

This is hard but rewarding job working with our staff taking care of our sweet pot-bellied pigs. Job duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning pens and fields, feeding the pigs by carrying buckets of grain throughout a field, learning which pigs go into the many feeding pens, learning which of the more than 120 pigs get medications, preparing daily medications, hands-on care of pigs who are disabled, injured, or sick, general animal care and help with trimming tusks and hoofs and other medical procedures, watering our 23 different fields . This is an outdoor job so the ability to work outside in the summer is necessary. The job requires that you be outdoors walking over our 15 acres of fields all day as you do your job. Summer daytime temperatures can be in the 100’s. Previous experience working outside in a hot climate is a plus.

This is a full time position. Five 8 hour days. Working hours are from 5 AM to 1 PM in the summer becoming 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM in the winter. Starting pay is $8.00 an hour. There is health insurance after 3 months and a one weeks vacation each year. There is an opportunity to receive up to a $1 per hour increase each year during the first two years. Must be willing to work one weekend day a week and some holidays as necessary.

No drugs period. Successful candidate must pass a drug test as a condition of employment. Non-smoker.

Our location is about 1 hours drive Northwest of central Tucson. We are approximately 30 miles distant from Tucson. There are about 4 miles of dirt roads to the sanctuary. We are located in a rural area half way (as the crow flies) between the towns of Red Rock and Catalina.
