The Chief Technology Officer for Stremor Corp. will initially collaborate with the company founders and inventors as a hands-on Director of Product Development and should be experienced in creating new technologies for Internet start-ups. The CTO’s role is to ensure the successful execution of the design, development, and deployment of a new technology representing a framework for digital content and sharing. This requires envisioning the specifications described in the company’s patents, product descriptions, and feature sets to lead the implementation of the infrastructure, middleware, web applications, web interface, and mobile applications that comprise the company’s publication service product (Stremor).
Ideal candidates will be either VP-level leaders of teams developing sophisticated solutions for high-demand online content, or an existing CTO in a similar situation looking for a new and compelling challenge.
This position is on-site in our Phoenix, AZ offices. Relocation expenses and signing bonuses offered to highly-qualified individuals.
Responsibilities: Strategy & Planning
- In partnership with the company’s founders, identify opportunities and risks for delivering the company’s invention as a publication service for web, mobile, and future user platforms.
- Identify the appropriate existing and new technologies required for both deployment and long term success of the publication service product and the business.
- Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms (application frameworks and deployment stack) for delivering the publication service product.
- Participate as a member of the senior management team in establishing governance processes of direction and control to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately and the organization’s resources are used responsibly, to deploy the publication service product and supporting enterprise.
- Collaborate with the appropriate departments to ensure the technology deployment meets or exceeds the requirements of creative and marketing.
- Communicate the company’s technology strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders.
Responsibilities: Implementation & Deployment
- As a member of the senior management team, participate in the selection and review of potential candidates for key positions in the technology and creative departments.
- Define the company’s software development methodology for rapid deployment of the core publication service product and supporting infrastructure.
- Establish a specification conformance and quality assurance regimen based on user testing and the User Experience design.
- Define coding conventions and documentation standards.
- Review current best practices for the selected web framework and establish the initial architecture for the application.
- Select and manage company staff or outsourced vendors who will implement the application.
- Establish and supervise the software development process, setting short-term objectives and assessing progress as defined by the selected software development methodology.
- Conduct code reviews and specification conformance testing as defined by the selected software development methodology.
- Review and approve proposed development releases and manage the release process.
- Evaluate and select web application hosting providers.
- Establish an application deployment process and supervise deployment to staging and production servers.
- Monitor application performance and review any application failures in staging or production.
- Support the marketing process by providing implementation of technical requirements for Internet marketing, advertising, content providers, and search optimization.
Responsibilities: Operational Management
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices.
- Ensure that technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organization.
- Share knowledge, mentor, and educate the organization’s investors, management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders with regard to the company’s technological vision, opportunities, and challenges.
- Ensure company technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Develop, track, and control the development and deployment annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing, and operations.
- Supervise recruitment, training, mentoring, retention, and organization of all development staff in accordance with the company hiring process, personnel policies, and budget requirements.
- Establish standards of performance and monitor conformance for staff (through performance review) and vendors (through service level agreements).
- Ensure the company’s internal technological processes and publication service product comply with expectations and applicable laws and regulations for privacy, security, and social responsibility.
Position Requirements: Formal Education & Certification
- University Masters degree in the field of computer science, business administration, or another rigorous discipline.
Position Requirements: Knowledge & Experience
- Demonstrated ability to envision next-generation technologies and services that meet user needs, solve business problems, and deploy a superior publication service product.
- Significant experience with Python and the natural language toolkit.
- Significant experience with startup companies.
- Hands-on experience coding in more than one currently popular web application framework with an emphasis on CMS and high-demand infrastructures that support millions of pieces of content.
- Familiar with more than one software development methodology.
- Ability to discern user requirements and develop specifications.
- Familiar with streaming content and the technologies necessary to convert user-uploaded video and audio into a standard format for streaming in the publication service product.
- Superior skill with CSS, XHTML, one or more Javascript frameworks, and AJAX.
- Knowledge of online advertising architectures for web and mobile content services.
- Knowledge of performance metrics and audience measurement architectures for web and mobile content services.
- Experience with cloud-based deployment frameworks and high-demand infrastructure.
- Familiarity with technical requirements of Internet marketing and search engine optimization, specifically those associated with in-page dynamic content delivered through an AJAX front-end.
- Familiarity with information security vulnerabilities and risk management.

Compensation and Incentives
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience and other attributes that contribute to the potential success of the company.
- Position is full-time on payroll.
- Incentives in the form of cash bonuses are offered for the completion of the publication service product on time to agreed specifications.
