POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Development reports to the Chief Executive and is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating all aspects of the organization’s comprehensive fundraising program. In addition to managing development staff and overseeing internal operations for fundraising, the Director will also manage corporate communications for the Center and serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board. He or she will personally manage his/her own portfolio of prospects and donors.
In FY 2010 the Center received approximately 50% of its income in the form of contributions without having created a formal program of development. The Development Director will create new systems for donor acquisition and stewardship and implement them, thus helping to increase the capacity of the Center to expand effectively.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and execute strategic fundraising plans, both short-term and long-term, including fundraising priorities, goals, calendars, and budgets.
• Articulate the fundraising case for support and manage corporate communications, including collateral for fundraising.
• Organize prospect identification and donor relationship management processes, including the identification, qualification, cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
• Help direct the fundraising efforts of the Chief Executive and key volunteers, and serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board.
• Develop and utilize appropriate tracking technology and systems.
• Manage development staff and maintain the fundraising infrastructure, including:
o Data and information management.
o Donor recognition and acknowledgement
o Levels of giving program
o Gift and pledge processing and reporting.
• Collaborate with other Center staff and contractors on aspects of their work that relate to fundraising, communicating consistently and proactively.
• Participate in representing the Center to the community.
• Manage relationships with outside partners that affect the development function.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years nonprofit management experience. Minimum of 5-7 years of comprehensive fundraising experience, particularly major gift development and relationship management. Proven track record in managing comprehensive fundraising operations including individual, corporate, and foundation donor cultivation, grant writing, annual fund, direct mail and electronic solicitation, events, and planned giving. Proven track record in personally securing large philanthropic contributions. Proven track record in building strong, sustainable fundraising operations.

Ability to effectively supervise, motivate and support others in a demanding team environment.
