Editorial Director – Magazines (Phoenix/Scottsdale)

  • National media company based in Scottsdale, AZ is seeking a dynamic, experienced Editorial Director to join strong and collaborative team.
     

     
    Editorial Director will play an integral part in shaping the identity, strategy, and intended experience for the readership of our publications and online content. The Editorial Director will work closely with our executive team and creative team to establish the strategy for editorial content and manage its creation by providing editorial guidance and insight; story ideas and story budgets; fiscal responsibility and discipline; imagination and visual imagery; and by writing and proofing – with a heavy emphasis on writing initially. A thorough knowledge of the English language, AP-Style writing, and common publishing practices are required. Editorial Director will act as editor to in-house monthly business magazine and oversee freelance writers; freelance photographers; illustrators; and social media editor.
     

     
    Editorial Director Responsibilities include:
     
    • Participating in the development, preparation and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies and priorities while identifying needed resources and recommending/implementing policies and procedures
     
    • Determining the scope of work necessary to take new products to market
     
    • Knowledge of Valley business market and realm
     
    • Contributing to creating and updating resources that will ensure successful project execution, that existing content is leveraged, and the resulting product is true to our brand and to the publications’ directives
     
    • Managing and providing guidance to editorial teams throughout the project, assessing content and giving detailed feedback and direction
     
    • Collaborating with other functional groups on issues related to the media information products
     
    • Ensuring that content is of the highest quality
     
    • Preparing and managing editorial budgets
     
    • An understanding of current trends in publishing of B2B, lifestyle, association, travel and specialty publications
     
    • Thorough familiarity with the publishing industry
     
    • Proven project management experience with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deliver on time and on budget
     
    • Experience working with information presentation in non-print formats
     
    • An understanding of digital publishing & design needs
     
    • Sufficient technical know-how to work comfortably and independently in Microsoft Office and various database tools, and ability to learn custom software and tool sets
     
    • Familiarity with website navigation and design programs like Adobe products
     
    • Manage the ongoing social media accounts and various online content. Full updates and ongoing approval of content
     
    Work experience requirements:
     
    • At least 3 years of broad management responsibility that will have prepared you to oversee the daily operations of in-house content teams and freelance writers, establish budgets and project justifications, and create operating efficiencies
     
    Education Requirements
     
    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and/or
     
    • 5+ years related experience required
