Rite of Passage-Canyon State Academy is a residential at-risk youth facility located in Queen Creek, AZ. For over 25 years we have been recognized for improving the lives of youth. Our Coach Counselors work a 3½ day work week that do require overnights. As part of that 3½ day shift coach counselors and group leaders are required to sleep on site. Sleeping quarters are provided. This practice is precautionary only and sleep is interrupted only in the event of an emergency situation that the awake night staff is unable to handle. When staff is awakened to assist in an emergency, compensation is provided. All staff sleeping over must return to campus and in their respective sleeping areas or cottages prior to 12 midnight.

The 3 ½ day work week encompasses a 48 hour shift. There are two shifts. “A” Shift works Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:00AM until 10:00PM — with a consecutive two hour break. Then they work on Wednesdays from 6:00AM until 3:00PM (with a two hour break). The “B” Shift works the other half of Wednesday, from 2:00PM until 10:00PM (with a 1 hour break). They also work Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00AM until 10:00PM with a consecutive two hour break. We find this schedule works well with our program. The coach counselors are direct care staff and are true “mentors”.

Canyon State Academy offers excellent benefits. We have a basic medical plan, dental and vision for the employee after 90 days with a minimal expense to the employee to cover his/her dependents. After one year, a comprehensive plan is offered to employees and his/her dependents for a minimal payroll deduction. We offer PTO (paid time off), paid holidays, flexible spending accounts (both health and childcare). The Rite of Passage 401K plan receives a generous employer match of dollar for dollar up to a maximum of 6% of the employee’s contribution. After 1 year you are eligible for this 401k program and will be 100% vested immediately. Additionally staff have free meals and a clothing allocation.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Must be 21 years of age

* Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED

* Must have a minimum of a total of 12 months’ experience working with youth (8 -18)

* Must be able to pass the fingerprint card clearance process

* Must pass drug screening and pre-employment physical

* Must hold a current, valid driver’s license, and be able to secure a 39 month driving record

* In addition will commit to staying overnight on campus while on shift
