The Institute for Humane Studies offers paid journalism internships for students who support free markets and individual liberty. In eight weeks with one of our host organizations, you will gain experience and expand your professional network. Past interns have worked at newspapers, media networks, new media firms, and nonprofit newsrooms including the DC Examiner, CalWatchDog, Clear Channel Communications, and The Daily Caller.

The summer deadline is January 31.

Key program features:
- $3,200 stipend for an eight-week internship
- Travel allowance to get to the internship
- Six-day journalism workshop
- Job placement assistance from the program director, a former journalist
- Option to find an unpaid internship, unrelated to the program, and apply for funding

During your internship, professional journalists teach core reporting skills such as how to cultivate sources and ask the right questions. You’ll produce or write your own stories, adding bylines or credits to your portfolio.

The six-day journalism workshop features acclaimed journalists from The Atlantic and Reason Magazine, plus academic lectures on topics such as the history of the free press and working with statistics.

Ideal program candidates are talented writers and communicators who support individual liberty and are interested in non-governmental, voluntary solutions to social and political problems. Advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates of all majors, including political science and economics, are encouraged to apply.
