The Performance Test Engineer I provides exceptional test development, execution, and analysis for a mix of computing hardware and software platforms.Duties and Responsibilities
The employee assists with development of QA processes and procedures, develops test cases, sets up testing environments, executes test cycles, and provides internal and external teams with accurate and timely test results. The testing environment contains a diverse set of applications and includes AIX, Linux, and Windows systems. This position will work closely with various Engineering and Operation teams in all phases of testing. The Test Engineer reports directly to the Senior QA Engineer.Primary Responsibilities:
• Test environment preparation to include hardware, operating system, and software installation and configuration
• Test and analysis of hardware to identify performance issues and areas for improvement that helps to ensure that hardware will meet current and future needs
• Test and analysis of software to identify issues to help minimize outages and service interruptions
• Quickly troubleshoot problems and analyze failures identified during testing
• Communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in written form to peers and management
• Maintain monitoring, control, and analysis tools
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on schedule
• Create and maintain technical documents, processes, and proceduresEducation/Experience/Certification Requirements:
Associates degree in Computer Science, Computer/Management Information Systems, or Engineering or five years of related experience, plus two or more years work experience.Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• Two to three years of performance testing of integrated hardware/software products.
• Experience with one or more of the following: C, UNIX shell scripting, Perl, Python, or similar languages
• Two to three years of experience performing general Linux and Windows system administration including installation, maintenance, upgrade, configuration, performance tuning, troubleshooting and resolving operating system issues
• Proficiency in test planning, writing test cases/scripts and test execution
• The ability to perform unit, functional, regression and performance testing
• Experience in performing test analysis, generate test requirements and document issues
• Ability to analyze and identify the root cause of anomalies encountered by reviewing log files, database tables, etc.
• Experience in process improvement and development of QA processes and procedures
• Experience with installing, configuring, and administering web applications
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP along with the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure in a fast-paced on-time deliverable environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be self-motivated and able to work effectively both alone and as part of a team
• Some travel may be required
