Project Manager/Environmental Lab Manager (I-10 and Palo Verde Road)

    LEGEND is currently seeking a full time Project Manager/Laboratory Manager for its Tucson, Arizona Laboratory/Service Center. The responsibilities for this position include:
     

     
    • Management of the day-to-day activities of the laboratory, including oversight of 2 lab technicians
     
    • Basic microbiological and chemical analysis of drinking water and wastewater samples (e.g. total coliform, E. coli, turbidity, etc.)
     
    • Maintenance of laboratory quality control records and regulatory compliance
     
    • Preparation of reports and invoice for Southern Arizona clients
     
    • Assist with sample receiving and login duties
     
    • Assist with sample collection (e.g. wastewater composite sampling, flow monitoring, etc.) and sample pickup duties on a routine basis. The position could entail up to 50% field work at certain times.
     
    • Assistance with Sales and Marketing events in the Southern Arizona region
     
    • Other duties as assigned
     

     
    Minimum requirements for this position include a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or other scientific discipline and at least 2 years of laboratory/customer service experience. A valid AZ driver’s license and ability to lift at least 50 pounds are also required. Sample collection and management experience are highly desirable.

    POSITION TITLE: Department Manager
     

     
    SUPERVISOR: Laboratory Operations Manager (Laboratory Departments,Tucson Office, and Client Services)
     

     
    STATUS: Exempt
     

     
    SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
     

     
    GENERAL:
     

     
    - Supervises personnel assigned to the department.
     

     
    SPECIFIC:
     

     
    - Supervises work flow in the department.
     
    - Schedules and monitors work of personnel assigned to the department.
     
    - Approves vacation requests, time cards, expense records, etc. of personnel assigned to the department.
     
    - Performs annual performance review for personnel assigned to the department.
     

     
    DISCRETIONARY JUDGEMENT:
     

     
    - Organizes his/her time schedule to meet client requirements.
     
    - Determines capacity and time schedules for work of the department.
     
    - Compiles and administers written warnings to personnel assigned to department when conditions warrant.
     
    - Approves employee time sheets/expense records for any personnel assigning costs or a portion of costs to their department.
     
    - Reviews and approves any changes in billing directly affecting his/her departments.

    DUTIES:
     

     
    - Monitor and direct work of personnel assigned to the department.
     
    - Manage department expenses, work flow, etc. in an efficient manner.
     
    - Interface with QA/QC Coordinator to meet requirements.
     
    - Perform methods and data recording in accordance with prescribed methods.
     
    - Market services to prospective clients and maintain ongoing relationships with current client base
     
    - Maintain familiarity with and comply with environmental regulations.
     

     
    - Prepare proposals
     
    - Prepare factual and formal reports and review data/reports generated by others for technical merit
     
    - Perform other job duties as required
     

     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
     

     
    - Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s in science related field.
     
    - Minimum Three years experience as a chemist in the laboratory (laboratory departments) or a minimum three years experience as an industrial hygienist (Industrial Hygiene Departments)
     
    - Attendance at seminars and short courses to maintain currency in particular area of expertise and compliance with regulatory requirements concerning licensing/certification in the various environmental areas
     
    - Maintenance of certifications required by state and federal regulations
     
    - Ability to wear a respirator, lift 40 pounds, and perform field work (Industrial Hygiene Departments)
     
    - Ability to work with chemicals and comply with medical surveillance requirements if applicable (Laboratory Depts)
     
    - Membership in professional societies
     

     
    POSITION TITLE: Client Manager II (Project Manager)
     

     
    SUPERVISOR: Department Manager
     

     
    STATUS: Exempt/ Non-exempt
     

     
    SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
     

     
    General:
     

     
    - Acts as laboratory contact to specific clients assigned to manage.
     

     
    Specific:
     

     
    - Addresses client requirements including turnaround times, methods, reporting formats, etc.
     

     
    DISCRETIONARY JUDGMENT:
     

     
    - Determines pricing for clients and generates project invoicing.
     

     
    INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

    DUTIES:
     

     
    - Be available by telephone to assigned clients during normal laboratory work hours.
     
    - Review client request for ability of laboratory to perform testing in accordance with requested methodologies, in requested time frame, and to requested detection limits.
     
    - Monitor client projects through the laboratory to verify compliance with client requirements.
     
    - Communicate any deviations, etc. to client in a timely manner.
     
    - Prepare proposals.
     
    - Prepare sub-contracts and purchase orders for any work required to be sub-contracted. Verify sub-contractor meets contract/proposal requirements, and interface with sub-contractor to meet client needs. Approve sub-contractor invoicing and assign fees to the appropriate department.
     
    - Generate laboratory reports.
     
    - Generate client invoicing.
     
    - Complete project files in accordance with company requirements.
     
    - Relay any pertinent contract information concerning analytical specifics, turnaround times, billing requirements, etc. to the appropriate department managers, laboratory operations manager, and accounting.
     
    - Verify client needs are being met and interface with client on a routine basis as to requirements, problems, etc. Inform others in the laboratory including department managers of specifics related to work scope, turnaround time, billing, etc. Use department level input to resolve any issues with assigned clients.
     
    - Resolve any non-conformances, problems, etc. applicable to assigned clients with input from applicable departments, accounting, and laboratory operations manager. All corrective action procedures are to be coordinated with QA.
     
    - Monitor client account with respect to payment status and provide pertinent information to accounting for resolution of any problems.
     
    - Performs other duties as needed.
     

     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
     

     
    - A Bachelors Degree in a Science related field with one year of experience working in client services as a Client Manager I, or equivalent, or a minimum of three years experience working in client services or management.
     
    - Previous or concurrent laboratory experience.
