Workforce Development Specialist (MWC West Valley)

AZ Women’s Education and Employment (AWEE) is looking for a candidate to work at the West Valley Maricopa Workforce Connection. The successful candidate will work as the AWEE representative, supporting Maricopa County’s WIA program by focusing on individuals who were formerly incarcerated. The work will include intensive case management with an estimated caseload of 100 participants in various stages of development. The candidate will work closely with Job Developers to assure employment opportunities are matched with participants’ needs. The successful candidate will assist participants in assessing their strengths and limitations; empower them to make decisions in light of this assessment; guide participants to accept responsibility for decisions made; and engage in a course of action that is harmonious with that chosen direction. The successful candidate will know and understand the requirements of WIA focusing on those requirements while keeping the participants needs paramount.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Develop, prepare, and implement course of action and service strategies appropriate for achieving individual objectives and program requirements based on assessment of and input from the participant.
2. Identify and address participant’s barriers to achieving education and employment goals.
3. Establish and maintain up-to-date participant files and records with all required information.
4. Meet regularly with participant to reassess progress on activities, while using effective motivational skills to ensure that the participant is using appropriate effort and time to pursue established goals, redirecting participant activities as necessary.
5. Ensure that participants are adequately prepared for job search/placement, and provide job leads and/or referrals to facilitate participants’ transition to employment that meets AWEE standards.
6. May perform community and/or employer outreach, offer program presentations, coordinate job fairs and/or participate in other assigned community events.Qualifications and Experience
1. Must have or be able to obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card.
2. A minimum of two years experience with Workforce Investment Act-Adult programs.
3. Case management experience with those previously incarcerated or those with substance abuse.
4. Demonstrated communication skills to interface with internal and external customers.
5. Strong writing skills demonstrated in case notes and written communication with participants.
6. Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
7. Ability to work independently within the Maricopa Workforce Connection, but as a member of the AWEE Staff
8. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
9. Valid Arizona Driver’s License and Current Automobile Insurance
