Since 1968, the Civitan Foundation, Inc. has been dedicated to providing our community an accessible, safe, and affordable environment while delivering superior life experiences to enhance the quality of life to individuals with developmental disabilities. It is our goal to provide accessible recreation and educational experiences to people of all abilities. In support of this mission, Civitan has recently entered into a partnership with the City of Phoenix to assume management of the Thunderbirds Teen Center. Through this venture, Civitan provides typical youth in the surrounding area, between the ages of 11 and 17, with drop-in and structured programming after school and during typical non-supervised hours. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 2pm to 7pm, with special events on select Saturdays.The primary goal of the Thunderbirds Teen Center is to provide youth with an inventory of skills and positive experiences that will help promote self-development. The Center offers basic tutoring and mentoring services, recreation opportunities, social activities, enrichment classes, career planning and post-secondary education preparation courses, and certification and training seminars.
Position Summary:
Directs/manages overall daily operations of the Thunderbirds Teen Center with the primary concern for programs and service delivery, supervision of participants, staff, facilities management, community relations and membership administration.Duties:
•Establish Center programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an environment that promotes positive experiences and self-development.
•Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the Center’s programs, services and activities to ensure that they meet program objectives, City requirements and member needs and interests.
•Recruit, organize, and manage program instructors and guest speakers.
•Compile regular reports reflecting all Center activities, attendance and participation.
•Ensure that facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
•Oversee program participants and enforce program rules and expectations.
•Manage program budget and expenditures.
•Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment, including use of facilities by outside groups.
•Ensure a healthy and safe environment.
•Ensure compliance with organization policies.
•Act as a liaison between the Civitan Foundation, Inc. and the City of Phoenix.
•Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.
•Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Center and the community.Additional Responsibilities:
•Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment.
•Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.
•Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
•Assume other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
•Four year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
•Previous work experience planning and supervising activities for youth. Creativity is a must.
•Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
•Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; bilingual is a plus.
•Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff.
•Ability to deal effectively with members, including discipline problems.
•Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management.
•Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
•Proficient in Microsoft software applications.
•Background check and fingerprint clearance card required.
•CPR and First Aid Certifications (Training available upon selection).
•Valid Arizona State Drivers License.
•Ability to meet insurance company eligibility requirements for the operation of company vehicles.Application Process:
